Durham 2019 Local Elections: Candidates, Polling Places, Hours

Here's what you need to know concerning the 2019 Durham local elections including the candidates, polling places, voting hours and more.

DURHAM, CT β€” Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 5 to vote in Durham’s municipal election. The position of first selectman, spots on the boards of education and selectmen are all up for grabs.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will be able to vote even after the deadline passes. You can find your poll location at the Secretary of the State website by inputting your information.

For First Selectman, Republican Laura Francis is running against petitioning candidate George M. Eames IV.

For Selectmen, Republican Thomas Hennick is running against Democrat John Szewczyk.

Republican Kim Garvis is running unopposed for Town Clerk. Republican Wendy Manemeit is also running unopposed for Town Treasurer. Democrat Martin French is running unopposed for Tax Collector. Republican Debra DeFelice is running unopposed for Board of Assessment Appeals.

On Board of Finance, Democrat Robert Pazera and Republicans Laurie Tuttle and Connor Bates are running. Voters will choose two candidates.

For Planning and Zoning Commission full term, voters will choose two of the following: Democrat Holly Pearce and Republicans Michael Fumiatti, Frank C. DeFelice, Richard Eriksen, and Will Spooner. Voters will also choose two alternates: Democrat Maureen McIntyre and Republicans James Piotrowski and Philip Augur are running.

For Planning and Zoning Commission two-year term, Democrat Christopher Belay and Republican James Frazier are running. Voters will choose two candidates. Democrat John DeNunzio is running unopposed as an alternate for the commission's two-year term.

Zoning Board of Appeals: Democrats Mark Jungels, Joyce Bray, and Maya Perry Liss; Republicans William LaFlamme and Mike Geremia. Voters will choose two. Zoning Board of Appeals alternates: Democrat Jaclyn E. Zolnik and Republican Robert Francis. Voters will choose two.

Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but those who arrive need to be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote. Unlike previously registered voters standing in line before 8 p.m. to register won't guarantee the ability to vote.

Absentee ballots are also available for those who won't be in town all of election day or for a multitude of other reasons. Voters can also register online prior to the election.
