Durham Fair Surpasses Composting Goal by Three Tons

The task force thanked volunteers and supporters for their help in going green at the fair.

The official mass composted at the 2014 Durham Fair was 3.84 tons (7680 pounds) from 44 vendors and three exhibit halls. (15 cubic yards of organic compostable material).

The Durham Clean Energy & Sustainability Task Force exceeded their goal of 3 tons! Over 124 hours of volunteer work went into the project.

The task force is grateful for the help from ECO students from Coginchaug Regional High School, members of CAT (Coginchaug Area Transition Group), and tractor drivers from Boy Scout Troop 27. Volunteers ranged in age from 9 to 60s. (Every decade between had some representation.)

The project was also successful because of the generous donation of a dumpster, rolling bins, and hauling service from HQ Dumpsters and Recycling in Southington, a Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation grant, buckets donated by Home Depot, and funding from the Durham Fair Association.
