Durham Garden Club Plans Educational Event
Jump Into Spring to include nationally recognized speakers for adults and a Fairy Garden Workshop to introduce gardening to children.
The Durham Garden Club met last week to begin planning an educational gardening seminar that will take place April 25, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Durham Public Library. The club expects to have four noted speakers on the subjects of encouraging pollinators, alternatives to pesticides/organic gardening, growing native plants and growing heirloom vegetables. A hands-on fairy garden workshop will interest children and adults alike.
The day-long event titled Jump into Spring is being underwritten by a grant from the Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation with the additional assistance of the Durham Library Board, who are allowing the use of the Library, and the Public Association of Library Supporters PALS, who are lending the use of the entrance display case for the month of April.
All Durham Garden Club meetings are open to the public and most include a guest speaker. On October 9, Matthew Opel will talk on Cacti and Succulents for the Home Gardener. Opel is the president of the Connecticut Cactus and Succulent Society. His talk will begin at 11:15 am in the Library.
