Durham Green's Christmas Tree Boring?
Who made the decision to break a decades-old tradition and replace multi-colored lights with boring white?
My wife and I attended the tree-lighting ceremony on the Durham Green today and were stunned when Santa flipped the switch and the tree came ablaze in ... white!!! We have lived across from the Green for thirty years, and in all that time, and I‘m sure much longer, the town’s Christmas trees have been adorned in festive multi-colors. Always a great joy to behold! You felt happy to see them. The Rockefeller Plaza folks and the White House tree planners, as well as countless towns around the country, certainly understand this. I’m sorry, but white lights on a town‘s official tree are boring.
It was a shame to lose our original trees, and this new-kid-on-the-block is an excellent replacement. But he’s smaller and needs all the help he can get to uphold the joyous tradition, and did not get it. He deserves better than boring white. This had to be a conscious decision to scrap the old colored lights and replace them with white ... and it was wrong. Don Bourret
