Durham Officials Offer Advice On CT DEEP's New Plastic Bag Recycling Effort
"When plastic bags or wraps are put in curbside bins, it makes recycling more difficult," says CT DEEP Commissioner Rob Klee.

DURHAM, CT β The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has launched an initiative to increase the amount of plastic bags and wraps that are recycled in Connecticut, and Durham officials are offering advice to residents on just how to go about it.
In a post on the town's website, officials outline many of the initiative's elements, called Connecticut WRAP (Wrap Recycling Action Project).
"When plastic bags or wraps are put in curbside bins, it makes recycling more difficult, time consuming, and expensive, which winds up costing all of us more money," said CT DEEP Commissioner Rob Klee in a statement. "Recycling plastic bags and wraps at participating retailers diverts materials from the landfill and creates useful new products. This supports the state goal of diverting 60 percent of our trash from the waste steam by 2024."
