August 11, 2020 Presidential Preference Primary: Secretary of the State Denise Merrill mailed every registered Democrat and Republican in the state an application for absentee ballot. The voter must complete, sign, date and return the application to the Town Clerk in order to obtain an absentee ballot for the August primary. That application, which will be sent via U.S. Postal Service, will include a postage paid return envelope. Beginning July 21, 2020, all voters who requested an absentee ballot will receive the ballots in the mail, which will also include a postage paid return envelope. (If you have already submitted an application for the August primary, you may disregard the mailer sent by the Secretary of the State).

Unaffiliated voters may affiliate with either major party (DEM, REP) and vote in the August primary by:
First, change your affiliation to DEM or REP by completing a voter registration card, or by going online
at: https://voterregistration.ct.gov/OLVR/welcome.do
Once you've changed your affiliation, complete an application for absentee ballot, sign, date and mail to the Durham Town Clerk, P. O. Box 428, Durham, CT 06422, or place in drop box next to Town Hall.
The Town of Durham has installed a secure ballot drop box, provided by the Secretary of the State. This drop box is located on the south side of Town Hall (Durham Fair side) near the front steps, to allow voters to deliver their applications and/or absentee ballots in person without close personal contact. For those who would still like to appear in person to cast their vote, our polling locations will remain open, however, the ability to vote absentee will ensure that the democratic process continues safely and securely.
