Elect Lucy Petrella, she's a sure thing!

Elections are about choices and chances. When a person decides to become a candidate, they are taking a big chance. They leave behind the safety and security of their private life, they ask their families to take a back seat to the needs of the community and then they put it all on the line for a cause they believe in, a rather difficult choice. I ought to know, I took that chance a long time ago and looking back I know it was the right choice.

That’s why so few jump into politics for the right reasons and why when a person of integrity and energy is willing to make those sacrifices and says yes, “I’ll run for office”, then you, the voters, have a great opportunity to make the right choice.

My friend Lucy Petrella, your Democratic candidate for Middlefield First Selectman is just such a person. Lucy took a chance years’ ago, agreeing to work to protect the property rights of her neighbors in Middlefield and Rockfall by serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission, forging the plans for smart growth by making the right choices in land use and development to keep Middlefield the gem that it is.

When Lucy Petrella saw Middlefield needed help with the financial challenges the Town was facing she again took a chance and ran for the Board of Finance. There she has built a proven record of fiscal leadership. As its Chairperson she has guided the BOF through difficult times brought on by an economy in recession, making tough choices that reduced taxes while still meeting the needs of the citizens

Now she is taking the biggest chance of her public life by asking you to make her your choice for First Selectman. With a record like hers it would be easy for most of us to say: “I did my part”, then step back into private life to enjoy our lives and our families. Instead, Lucy Petrella is making the choice to serve you and the Town she loves.
