HK Students Visit State Capitol
State Rep. Jim Crawford hosts local high school students at Connecticut Youth Services Association Day in Hartford.

State Rep. Jim Crawford, who represents Killingworth, recently hosted students from Haddam-Killingworth High Schoool and Morgan High School, during Connecticut Youth Services Association Day at the State Capitol in Hartford.
Youth and Family Services in Clinton, a town agency that works with the schools to foster involvement between students and the community, organized groups of peer advocate counselors to brainstorm ways to combat bullying and cyber-bullying as well as help victims. In addition, the group discussed social media dangers, pitfalls, and personal safety.
“I was very impressed by the kids’ focus and understanding of how serious this problem is,” Crawford said. “The technology that is involved with cyber-bullying is profound and the potential to do serious harm over the long-term is significant.”

After their tour of the State Capitol and Legislative Office Building, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman spoke to the group about celebrating diversity and the importance of respecting each other as individuals.
“These students focused on combating negative behavior. Unfortunately, bullies don’t realize how profound an impact they can have," Crawford added.
