'Holistic Wellness Day' at Durham Public Library This Month

DURHAM, CT — The Durham Public Library will host an "Holistic Wellness Day" on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

As described below, participants will learn about practices such as yoga, acupuncture, t’ai chi, vegan cooking, reiki, and meditation, according to organizers.

Are you seeking to live a healthier lifestyle? Holistic wellness encompasses a series of practices that consider the whole person body, mind, spirit, and emotions to foster health and wellness.

Participants will learn about practices such as yoga, acupuncture, t’ai chi, vegan cooking, reiki, and meditation:

Yoga for Health. Start the day right! Personal trainer Sue Schade will introduce students to the basics of yoga to promote physical and mental balance for optimum health.

Acupuncture with Amy Calandruccio. Acupuncture is a form of therapy that promotes natural healing of the body. In this lecture you will learn how acupuncture works and what conditions it is used for ... you can even try one needle to see how it feels!

T’ai Chi for a Balanced Mind, Body and Spirit. Participants will explore some seated and standing meditation, zero-impact dynamic “Qigong” (gentle and fluid energy exercises) and some basic t’ai chi moving and t’ai chi postures.

Vegan 101. Eating well doesn’t have to be complicated. Chef Lawrence of Well on Wheels will teach the basics of a healthy, whole foods vegan diet, where to get protein, calcium and iron, how to stock a pantry, and tasty recipe ideas that will make the transition an adventure.

Living in the Light – Meditation & Empowerment. Participants will explore simple concepts of living in awareness that will help open you up to the wonders of life, discover who you are, and let go of fear and all that keeps you stuck.

Reiki Natural Healing. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” by which a “universal energy” is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to a patient in order to encourage healing.
