LETTER: Durham Resident Supports John-Michael Parker
"He has made the welfare of our sons and daughters a top priority and I trust he will take that pledge all the way to the state house."
Letter to the editor from Holly Simon:
Oct. 5, 2020
I am an OR nurse and being on the front lines during this COVID pandemic has sharpened my focus on what is truly important. I am the mother of a girl on the autism spectrum who has had both struggles and triumphs, and I have seen firsthand how critical the right supports at the right time can be.

When it comes to local representation for the IDD community, our current state rep has fallen short on many votes that would have helped this most vulnerable population right here in our midst. I feel that often children on the autism spectrum are overlooked because their disability is βinvisibleβ, and they are most often not students who are classified as βbehavioral problemsβ.
I am much encouraged that her opponent, Democrat John-Michael Parker, is listening closely to the IDD community. He has made the welfare of our sons and daughters a top priority and I trust he will take that pledge all the way to the state house.

So I am voting for John-Michael Parker on November 3 and I encourage all parents with special needs children to do the same.
Sincerely,
Holly Simon
