Local Youth Participate in Regional Sticker Shock Campaign

Local businesses partner with DMLWC and Strong School E.D.G.E. students to help prevent underage alcohol use!

Durham and Middlefield:  On April 30th, Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition (DMLWC) participated in a regional campaign to remind adults to not provide alcohol to those under 21.  EDGE (Excellent Decisions Guiding Everyday) students from Strong School placed stickers on bags donated from two local stores reminding adults of the penalties associated with providing alcohol to minors.  These bags were the delivered back to the stores for their use.

DMLWC appreciated the efforts of all agencies involved and would like to thank the local businesses who took part in this initiative.  This regional campaign was able to receive help from dozens of stores from over eight different towns.  National statistics show that a majority of youth report getting alcohol from home or from people they know, over the age of 21.  With the help of our community members we can prevent a tragedy and help keep alcohol out of the hands of minors.

DMWC is proud to partner with EDGE students at Strong and with local businesses who are committed to keeping youth safe, healthy, and drug-free.  “Much of this work could not have been done without the youth in our community,” said Stephanie Moran, Prevention Coordinator DMLWC, “they are the ones who are standing up and asking adults in their community to do the right thing.”
