Massive Fire Destroys Popular CT Wedding Reception Facility

Did you hold your special day at Wright's Mill Farm?

CANTERBURY, CT - An accidental fire at Wright's Mill Farm in Canterbury Wednesday evening destroyed the kitchen and a portion of the lodge at the popular banquet and wedding facility, according to fire officials.

Two people - one a firefighter, the other a civilian - suffered injuries in the blaze and were hospitalized, according to the Hartford Courant. Those injuries were not deemed life-threatening, according to a post on the farm's Facebook page.

"We attribute that no lives were lost, and the damage was controlled, to the prompt and professional response by the local volunteer firefighters," owners wrote. "Their valiant effort, by people we consider friends, prevented more damage. Thank you. We are in awe of your efforts."

The fire broke out just after 7 p.m. and took fire personnel from eight area departments five hours to bring completely under control, reports the Norwich Bulletin.

Canterbury Fire Marshal Paul Yellen told the Bulletin that the department's preliminary investigation determined the fire appeared to have been accidental, though a specific cause had not yet been disclosed.
