Middlefield Officer Lies About Personal Car Accident, Police Say
The car accident took place in June 2014.

When Officer Scott Halligan, 45, of Middlefield, reportedly hit metal debris with his car, he drove away from the scene and did not report the incident, NBC Connecticut reports. The debris was near the intersection of Main Street and Reeds Gap Road.
According to the Hartford Courant, Halligan has served the town as a police officer for more than 10 years.
Initially, Halligan asked one of his police department colleagues to write a report of an accident in July, according to NBC Connecticut.

Police visited Cider Mill Road, where they were told Halligan had struck and killed a deer. But there was no indication of an accident of that nature and the damage to the car was not consistent with the incident report, according to the warrant NBC Connecticut obtained.
The correct location and details of the accident eventually were revealed. Halligan was arrested in September on failing to report an incident and conspiring to falsely report an incident.
