Now Brewing in Killingworth

Local coffee roaster to offer free tasting at Killingworth Country Market on Monday.

A new flavor of coffee is brewing in Middlesex County, and beyond.

On Monday, Zen Roasters Coffee Co., a micro brew roastarie located in Higganum that "specializes in roasting select world class green beans," will begin offering its unique coffee at the  at 256 Route 81.

To mark the occasion, Zen Roasters will offer a free tasting from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Zen, a name derived from the first names of the children of co-owner Tim Houlton (Zach, Eli and Natalie), has been in operation for less than six months, but has already established quite the following among java drinkers.

"We recently started selling our coffee to in Middletown, so we're very excited," explained Houlton, a science and language arts teacher at Haddam-Killingworth High School.

Zen Roaster's Sumatra Mandheling coffee is also available at  in Middletown. Houlton is working on agreements to sell his coffee at  in Madison and  in Middlefield as well.

Customers can already sip or pick-up Zen Roasters coffee at the  in Madison or Adams Grocery Store in Deep River.

"It's cool see people excited about tasting coffee," Houlton said. "It's a big deal for us to be in Killingworth."
