Obituary: Edward Marchinkoski, 74, Of Middletown

"The skills he honed as a youngster paved the way for his decorated military action during the Vietnam War."

MIDDLETOWN, CT - Edward Alexander Marchinkoski, 74, died on November 24, 2017 in New Port Richey, FL. Born March 3, 1943 in Middletown, CT, he was the son of the late Edward Oscar Marchinkoski and Agnes Brauer Marchinkoski. Edward is survived by his mother Agnes, his sons Edward and his companion Laurie Phillips, Bryan and his wife Emily (Athorn), two grandchildren Alexander and Avery Marchinkoski and a great granddaughter Izabella Luponio. Also surviving him is his former wife Mari Lou Lentini Marchinkoski and siblings Carolyn Nordgren, Linda Scrivener (George), Ronald (Cynthia), Diana Javornisky (Greg), John (Nellie), Paul (Angela), David (Elizabeth) and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Edward was also pre deceased by his granddaughter Elizabeth Moriarity and his brother Barry Marchinkoski.

Edward grew up in the west side of Cromwell, where as a young boy he developed a love of hunting, fishing and spending hours working on and fixing machinery, cars and trucks. He enjoyed caring for and riding his horses around the Brauer family property. Edward attended Vinal Technical School in Middletown, graduating in 1961. He spent many years working in the area as a mechanic, and a body and fender repairman. Edward also worked at Tommasso Construction Company, until his retirement.

Edward was drafted into the military, serving honorably from May 7, 1968 to May 6, 1970. The skills he honed as a youngster paved the way for his decorated military action during the Vietnam War. He served his country and comrades in arms well as a member of Company B, 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade. For his bravery in combat he received many honors; The Silver Star, third highest military combat decoration awarded for gallantry in action, three Bronze Stars and three Purple Hearts.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9th, at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Burial with military honors will be at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
