Obituary: Steven Eld Young, 50

Steven Eld Young thrived by living life to the fullest. On Saturday, June 24, 2017, Steven Young, age 50 of Branford, Connecticut passed away tragically by doing what he loved-windsurfing in Long Island Sound. Steven was born on September 13, 1966 in Middletown, Connecticut to a loving family.

Steven was always the neighborhood "rascal" where he grew up with many friends on Arbutus Street. His love for nature began as a child. He was a biker, a skier, a diver, and someone who believed that nothing could stand in his way., despite being diagnosed as a juvenile diabetic at age 2.

Steven attended Woodrow Wilson High School, where he excelled as a student and an athlete. His passion for surpassing the impossible continued as he studied printing and business management at Rochester Institute of Technology. He was the president of his fraternity, an athlete, and an excelling scholar. In 1992, Steven married the love of his life Brenda.

They shared 25 beautiful years of marriage traveling the world and raising their two children and grandchildren. Together, they were inseparable, a team, and a dynamic duo. Steven joined Young's Printing as a fourth generation operating member and later became president after his father's retirement.

He successfully led the company for many years before acquiring Servpro of North Haven and Westchester County, in which he excelled tremendously by leveraging his unique entrepreneurial and leadership skills which grew the company to be one of the top operating Servpro franchises in the United States. After he and Brenda sold Servpro and began looking for the next adventure, they began the process of planning their next business venture with the goal to positively impact the lives of many.

Throughout Steven's life, he always sought inner peace and believed that a positive mind created a positive life. Because of some of the challenges he faced in life, he began to explore his spirituality and engage in alternative ways to heal and grow, including Buddhism.

Over the years, Steven resided in Middletown, Durham, and finally, he and his wife Brenda and daughter Amanda, designed and built their dream home on the water in Branford, Connecticut. Steven thrived being in an area where he was surrounded by nature, water, family, and friends.

Never did he believe that he had limitations because he feared nothing, accepted all challenges, and every day was lived as an adventure. Steven was passionate about leading people to a cause, mastering all opportunities, and following the path of integrity. His quirky sense of humor, abundance of energy, and strong stamina attracted all types of people. His adventures were founded upon traveling the world, meeting new people, engaging in different cultures, and exploring life, whether it be on land or sea.

Steven lived a beautiful life with his family. He is survived by his wife Brenda, his daughter Amanda, his stepson Victor Martins and his wife Katie of Glastonbury, CT, his grandchildren Giselle and Andrew, his parents James and Evelyn Young of Westbrook, CT, his sister Diane and her husband David McKinnon of Rocky Hill, CT, his sister in law Laurie Trombly of Meriden, CT, his niece Heather Trombly, and his nephews Matthew and Daniel Gallitto, and finally his three cats Nala, Ben, and Ariel.
