About a year ago, The Mom Spot, Patch.com, and Perk On Main started a Box Tops for Education program.
Recently, I met with Melissa Lesniak, Box Tops Coordinator for Brewster and Korn Schools, and Danielle Drop, a senior at Coginchaug High School and employee at Perk On Main, to celebrate the handing over of the 726 box tops collected for our schools.
As Lesniak pointed out, there are many residents in Durham and Middlefield who may not have school age children, but are still eager to contribute to their community's youth. Collecting box tops is a simple yet highly effective way to do that. Each box top earns ten cents for the school of your choice. This means that our program at Perk On Main earned nearly $75 for our towns' kids.
Many thanks to Katie Hughes, owner of Perk On Main on Main Street in Durham, for providing the Box Tops drop-off space and holding a pastry giveaway promotion for several months. For twenty box tops, Perk On Main donated a free pastry with the purchase of a coffee. Delicious incentive!
Also, big thanks to Patch.com and former editor, Michael Hayes, for promoting this program on our local Patch site. As many of you remember, Hayes was a big supporter of our community, and we miss his coverage of our little towns.
Lastly, thank you to everyone who dropped off their Box Tops! Don't let the end of this program mean the end of your Box Tops collecting. Keep on clipping and call the school of your choice when you have a handful. The secretary will be able to tell you the best way to drop them off. Or, you could hand them over to a neighborhood family or the pastor at your church. Any way you do it, those box tops will get turned into cold hard cash for our schools by the hard-working Box Tops coordinators.
Happy clipping!
