Police: Durham Man Was Under the Influence During Head-on Middletown Crash

A Durham man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after he crashed head-on into another vehicle, according to police.

Officers responded to an accident on March 21 in the area of Hartford Avenue and St. John’s Square. A Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Ford Escape had collided.

Officers asked Thomas Perreault, 23, of Durham how the accident happened and he said he took his eyes off the road for a few seconds and went over the yellow line, police said.

An officer smelled alcohol on Perreault and asked him if he had anything to drink. He said he had “a few” drinks at Ruby Tuesdays in Cromwell. He later said he had two drinks.

He failed a field sobriety test and blew a .095 and a .089 on a BAC test, both of which are over the legal limit of .08, according to police.

Police also allegedly located a small amount of marijuana and a small scale in the vehicle.

Perreault was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
