Popular Connecticut Radio Show Raises Money For Malloy Severance Package

WPLR Chaz and AJ are raising money in hopes of getting Gov. Dannel Malloy to leave his position early.

The WPLR "Chaz and AJ" radio show has started a GoFundMe campaign to offer Gov. Dannel Malloy a severance package for an early leave.

"If you live in Connecticut, then you already know: The Governor has really screwed this place up," Chaz and AJ wrote on the GoFundMe page. "The one thing that brings Republicans, Democrats and Independents together is their belief: This Governor has got to go!"

The GoFundMe named "Gov's Gotta Go!" comes at a time where the state has gone 100 days without a budget and is officially the only state in the nation without one. Republicans with the support of some Democrats passed a budget in the state legislature that was vetoed by Malloy. Malloy said the budget relied on gimmicks and cut too deeply into higher education funding.

A lofty $1 billion goal has been set. So far, more than $2,000 has been raised as of Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for the governor said that the governor's office understands that "shock jocks" are meant to be entertaining for listeners, but that for state leaders and may taxpayers the state budget is a serious matter, according to WFSB.

If Malloy doesn't accept the offer, then contributors will have a say in how money will be donated.

Malloy announced he won't seek a third term as governor. The next gubernatorial election is in 2018.
