School Opens Sept. 1 for Haddam Killingworth

These are the dog days of summer for administrators, teachers, parents and students, as they wind down their summer activities and get ready for the first day of school. Floors are being polished, desks are being arranged, books organized and forms and first day of school packets are being assembled.  The first day for students in Haddam-Killingworth Regional School District 17 is Thurs. Sept. 1.

Comprehensive information for each school is available on the web at www.rsd17.org. You can find school schedules and calendars for each of the district's five schools, along with bus routes, lunch menus -- $3 at the high and middle schools (spaghetti and meatballs or chicken tenders are on the menu for the first day) $2.75 at the elementary schools (lunch choices at all three schools are spaghetti and meatballs or a meatball grinder) -- health forms, forms for athletes, game schedules, and much more.

While it may be a little early to think about school closing for snow days, school can be closed or dismissed early for a variety of reasons. District 17 utilizes the Honeywell Instant Alert system and encourages all families to sign up for this free service. Within minutes of an emergency, school officials can use Instant Alert to deliver a single, clear message to the students’ parents or guardians by telephone, cell phone, e-mail, pager or PDA in any combination. Instant Alert can also be used to notify you of a school closing due to inclement weather. It’s an equally effective way to keep you informed of everyday activities, such as event times and locations as well as schedule changes.
