Students enjoy action packed week with daily themes and events
This is school spirit week at Memorial School in Middlefield, and fifth and sixth graders are having a great time.
Tuesday was ‘Pajama and Stuffie’ Day. A good number of the students participated in the event. Several wore hoodies and flannel lounge pants. Some sported fuzzy bathrobes and slippers. Many had a stuffed animal in one arm and school books in the other.
“I’m not sure why we do it. I just know it happens every year, for one week and it is a lot of fun! We are all done our testing now, so it is great to just… you know, wear our pajamas and have a good time,” said Samar Chater.

This week is action packed with fun themes and events through Friday. Crazy Hat Day and Mix and Match Days already have many planning what they will wear. “I’m wearing a Panama Hat tomorrow!” exclaimed one student Tuesday, while eating lunch with her friends. The week will culminate on Friday, with a much anticipated Volley Ball game between the staff and students, at 2 p.m.
There is an abundance of school spirit amongst the student body, that will flow beyond activities of this week. Next week, the student senate is planning a fundraising event, to benefit a Children’s Home in Kampala, Uganda. At a student senate meeting earlier this year, the consensus was to aid those less fortunate than themselves. Specifically, children living in the home overseas. The Centre rescues children from war torn areas, the streets and orphaned situations. Students learned of the plight and needs of the children, when the Destiny Africa Children’s Choir of the Kapala Centre visited Memorial School last year.
