Wenzel Honored as Teacher of the Year

Coginchaug High School Art teacher Jan Wenzel was named TOTY earlier this school year and was recognized again during Wednesday's Board of Education meeting.

 

art teacher Jan Wenzel was awarded Regional School District 13's Teacher of the Year award Wednesday night, an honor she achieved, in part, by transforming the school with the artwork of her students.

"Jan Wenzel can support any student that walks through the door and she finds the best in them and she helps them grow. She does that day in and day out," superintendent Susan Viccaro said before presenting Wenzel with the award.

Wenzel has been teaching art in the district for 13 years, and previously worked as an art teacher in Milford, Westport and Windsor Locks. Before inspiring students at Coginchaug she taught at Strong School.

A 33 year Durham resident, Jan's husband is also an artist. The couple has two grown children. (See video for presentation of award)
