Wintry Mix for the Weekend in Durham, Middlefield [UPDATE]

New year, new weather report and it’s a cold one! Saturday, Jan. 3, will bring clouds and cold temperatures during the day.

Meteorologist Gil Simmons predicts snow will start to fall between 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday, before we see a changeover to a wintry mix and then rain. Most towns are calling for a range of one to two inches of snow/ice accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the mix is slated to switch to rain as temperatures warm up. Sunday’s forecast is calling for warmth (relatively speaking) and wind.

Sunday’s temperatures will be in the low to mid-50s range for much of the state, the National Weather Service reports.

Temperatures will plummet as the day goes on, with the NWS forecasting a low of 30 degrees Sunday night. Monday is slated to be sunny, with a high temperature in the mid-30s.

• Saturday: Snow, mainly after 1 p.m. High near 34. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

• Saturday Night: Rain and snow, becoming all rain after 7 p.m. Some thunder is also possible. Temperature rising to around 43 by 5am. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. East wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Sunday: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before noon, then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after noon. Patchy fog after 9 a.m. High near 61. Breezy, with a light south wind becoming southwest 18 to 23 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
