East Haddam artist Sarah Baskin is bringing the landscapes of Maine to Litchfield this fall with her solo exhibition Light in All the Right Places: Maine Scenes in Watercolor and Oil. Baskin is holding an opening reception from 5-7 PM on November 5 at the Jamie Gagarin Gallery of the Oliver Wolcott Library.
The exhibition will be on view through December 21, 2026, and features Baskin’s impressionistic oil and watercolor paintings inspired by Maine’s Penobscot Bay and surrounding coastline.
Baskin paints primarily en plein air, working outdoors directly from her surroundings. Painting on site allows her to capture the changing light and atmosphere of a scene and convey the feeling of being there.
Her paintings invite viewers to experience the beauty and serenity of the Maine coast and to imagine the moments in which they were created—a sunlit cottage overlooking the ocean, sailboats moving across the water, or a quiet stretch of shoreline accompanied by the sounds of birds and waves.
