Aquarion Warns Against Imposter Utility Workers [UPDATE]

Aquarion Water Co. is advising residents and business owners to refuse entrance into their home or business unless they have a scheduled appointment and see company-issued photo identification.

“Aquarion Water Company is distributing this advisory in effort to protect its customers from falling victim to scammers. Recent utility imposters have gained access into homes. We want remind our customers to take the proper safeguards before letting someone into their home or business,” according to a spokesman.

The advisory comes a day after an elderly Greenwich woman reported that after she allowed a man who produced authentic-looking credentials into her home, she was confronted by three additional men.

Indoor utility work is only being completed by scheduled appointment, according to the utility.

“Aquarion Water Company employees follow strict protocols when entering customers’ homes and businesses, which include showing the customer an Aquarion photo ID,” Charles V. Firlotte, Aquarion President and CEO, said in a statement. “We also encourage customers to call our Customer Service Department prior to allowing entry.”

Aquarion Water Company employees and contractors are required to carry company-issued photo identification at all times and to present such identification upon request when entering a customer’s home. If a worker cannot produce identification, customers should not allow entrance into their home or business and should immediately contact the police.
