Bystanders Save Distressed Swimmer At Portland Pond: Report

A struggling swimmer was rescued at Great Hill Pond on Sunday afternoon.

PORTLAND, CT — Bystanders rescued a swimmer in distress at Great Hill Pond in Portland on Sunday afternoon, according to WTNH News-8. A dive team had been activated to assist the swimmer but was called off minutes later as bystanders saved the struggling person.

No further information about the swimmer's condition was available.

Also over the weekend, a 16-year-old boy died at Uncas Pond in Nehantic State Park in Lyme. The teen was swimming with friends Saturday afternoon and ended up underwater.
