Chancellors Pride: 5 Unforgettable Athletes From East Hampton High School

From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in East Hampton.

Sports run deep in East Hampton, and Valley Regional High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Eagle uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Chatsworth High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


1. Brittany Gustafson - Collegiate Soccer Player

Brittany Gustafson was a standout female athlete at East Hampton High School, recognized for her competitiveness, consistency and leadership on the soccer field. Her skill was greatly recognized in high school, named a two-time All-State selection, two-time Player of the Year and finishing her career at East Hampton as the all-time leading scorer. Gustafson's career continued at Merrimack College, where she contributed early and showed off her skill on the field and in the net. In her senior season, she played goalkeeper and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player and earned NSCAA All-East Region Third-Team. (Source: Merrimack Athletics)


2. Tyler Wosleger - East Hampton Athletics Hall of Famer

Tyler Wosleger was a key contributor to the East Hampton baseball team, while also playing on the varsity soccer and basketball teams. In his four years of varsity baseball, he earned All-Area, All-State and All-Conference nods, was named the Shoreline Conference Player of the Year in 2008 and helped lead his team to a Shoreline Conference Championship as a senior captain. Wosleger continued his baseball career at Fairfield University, where her contributed to the team’s success as early as his freshman year, and continued to assist his team in success throughout his career. 3. Marvin Gorgas - Former Professional Baseball Player

Marvin Gorgas distinguished himself at East Hampton High School as a dynamic two-sport athlete in both basketball and baseball. He was a four-year All-Conference honoree, two-time All-State, both Shoreline Pitcher and Player of the Year and the school’s leading home run hitter of all-time. Gorgas' explosive career helped him get drafted in the 2014 draft to the MLB, where his professional baseball career lasted for five seasons. 4. Matt Vasquenza - Collegiate Soccer Star

Matt Vasquenza was a multi-sport star at East Hampton High School, recognized for his competitive play in soccer and basketball. Vasquenza was ranked among the top six recruits in the Northeast, named to the starting XI for the US Soccer Eastern Conference team, and was a four-year starter and 1,000-point scorer on the basketball team. His collegiate career at Xavier University was highlighted with several amazing moments and decorated with accolades, including Second-Team All-Big EAST, Big East All-Tournament team, Big EAST All-Rookie team and more. 5. Nikki Muhlberg - East Hampton Athletics Hall of Famer

Nikki Muhlberg was a standout dual-sport athlete at East Hampton High School, known for her athleticism, composure and skill on the soccer and softball teams. Nikki was an All-Conference selection and two-time All-State selection during her high school soccer team, and was second in conference scoring her junior year. Her exceptional play helped her continue her career collegiately at American International College. Nikki was elected to the East Hampton Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025.
