East Hampton's Heroux an All-Star Choice

Will represent state in Futures Select Game in New York.

East Hampton's Nate Heroux participated in the Rawlings Futures Showcase game on July 10 at Central Connectict State University

The baseball game, held annually, features the best American Legion juniors in the state and is attended by about 50 college coaches and scouts. Heroux, who played for East Haddam American Legion Post 156 this summer, is the fourth player from East Hampton to play in the Futures Game, joining Ty Wosleger, Eric Peck and Spencer Daly.

It gets better, though.

Of the 81 players statewide chosen to play in the Futures Game, 18 were selected to represent Connecticut in a Futures Select Game against New York All-Stars on Thursday at the Brooklyn Cyclones' MCU Stadium.

Heroux, a Second-Team All-Shoreline selection this season as an infielder with the Bellringers, was one of them.

"When he was a freshman with us, I kind of felt this is where he’d be about now," high school coach Scott Wosleger said. "I’m happy my vision for him has kind of come to fruition here. He was a big contributor with the state championship in 2011. He was an All-Conference player this year, one of the best infielders in the league. Now, with this Futures selection, he’s right where I hoped he could get."

Heroux, predominantly an infielder, did catch in a handful of Legion games. Just don't expect him to be behind the plate when the Bellringers take the field next season.

"He won’t catch for me," said Wosleger, reasoning that Heroux is too valuable at second base. "Those two guys are two of the best in the state up the middle, him and Marvin [Gorgas]."

The Futures Select Game will offer players additional exposure in front of college and professional scouts.

"I’m happy where he is and it where it looks like he’s continuing to go," Wosleger said.

Heroux, a senior next season, has already been named captain.
