Portland Cancels Annual Fireworks Extravaganza Due to Lack of Funds

The town tried to raise the money needed but fell short about $20,000.

PORTLAND, CT- The town fireworks extravaganza, an annually anticipated event, has been canceled, as reported by NBC Connecticut.

The reason for the cancellation stems from a lack of funds needed to put on the event, NBC Connecticut reported. The town had tried to raise the $30,000 needed this year, but fell short about $20,000.

This year marks the first time in close to two decades that the event has been canceled, according to NBC Connecticut. The town will now focus its efforts on putting on a great show for 2017.
