Portland Selectman Leads Group on 24-Hour Hike Over Appalachian Trail

The group set out at the north trailhead near Massachusetts and finished near New York.

PORTLAND, CT – A Portland selectman led a 24-hour Appalachian Trail hike to bolster Unified Sports, the Middletown Press reported.

Michael Pelton led a group that traversed the state for over 24 hours straight along the trail, a journey of about 52 miles, the Middletown Press reported. The hike offered both fitness opportunities and a chance to raise money for Portland’s year-old Unified Sports program.

The group had set out before sunrise on Sept. 24 at the north trailhead at the Massachusetts border, the finished their journey at the southern border in New York, according to the Middletown Press. A martial arts instructor, Pelton trained for weeks in preparation for the journey.
