In honor of America250, our Reference and Local History Librarian, Chris Hemingway, will don historically accurate garb and perform a recitation of the Declaration. No RSVP needed to let freedom ring!
The United States Declaration of Independence, adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, is the foundational document severing the Thirteen Colonies' political ties with Great Britain. Drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson, it asserts universal human rights and justifies the American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence resonates to this day with universal truths, including that all are created equal.
