Capone: GOP Candidates Must Disavow 'Transfer Of Power' Statement
Democratic state senate candidate April Capone calls on GOP candidates to "publicly disavow" transfer of power statement by Pres. Trump.

Submitted by Democratic state senate candidate April Capone:
Democratic State Senate candidate April Capone called on all candidates running for office in Connecticut to publicly disavow President Donald Trump’s comments earlier this week where he refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses the November election.
“The peaceful transfer of power has been a cornerstone of American democracy for nearly 250 years. It is an affront to democracy, and un-American, to remain uncommitted to this principle. During my tenure as Mayor of East Haven, and having been in elections with razor thin margins, I saw first-hand how hard our local election officials work to ensure fair elections where every vote is counted, no matter how it was cast. Any effort to undermine this election is an attack on our democratic institutions upon which we all rely. These attacks should be concerning, not only for the people of this district, but all Americans.”

Capone continued, saying silence is complicity; “Those who choose to remain silent on this issue for fear of political loss are just as guilty. I understand that politics can be tough, but there comes a time when country and principles must be placed ahead of political maneuvering. This is one of those times. Therefore, today I am calling all candidates, including my opponent in this race and all GOP candidates in Connecticut, to publicly disavow the President’s statements and reaffirm their commitment to American Democracy. I applaud GOP leaders like Representative Vincent Candelora who have taken such action, but GOP leaders like JR Romano must be held accountable for their refusal to place the interests of our country and state over the interests of their party. We need leaders who will stand up for the people they represent, not those who hide in the shadows of complicity.”
The 34th State Senate district covers all of East Haven and Wallingford, most of North Haven and a part of Durham.
