Coronavirus East Haven: 6 Deaths At Whispering Pines Nursing Home

East Haven Mayor Joe Carofra said six people have died from COVID-19 at the nursing home and said "there may be others."

EAST HAVEN, CT — Mayor Joe Carfora announced Monday night that six people at the Whispering Pines Nursing Home have died from COVID-19 and he said "there may be others." There are other patients there that have tested positive or are "presumed positive" and he said there are staff members who tested positive also.

Carfora said that the first positive case was identified on March 31. He said the town's emergency management director contacted the state Department of Public Health. The nursing home is located at 38 Talmadge Ave.

At the time, the town supplied the nursing home with some "much needed" personal protection equipment. Carfora said town officials and the East Shore Health District have been monitoring the situation several times a day. He noted that the nursing home is licensed by the state health department. He said the DPH is providing oversight, he said.
