DC Moore School Sale, Part II

Republicans came fully prepared; Democrats....yeah sure

The inescapable conclusion one could draw from the recent town council meeting is obvious. The Republican members came to the meeting fully prepared.

In fact, you could even say they were so motivated to unload the property they daringly ridiculed those who opposed the sale, which makes one wonder; what personal stakes do those Republican council members have, to push the sale so aggressively, to make them treat their constituents so discourteously?

Was there a “quid pro quo?”

Just think about it; if they (one of them) owned that piece of property, how enthusiastic would they be to unload it and ignore the consideration of bequeathing it to his or her children?

But for the sake of parity, it could also be argued that the Democratic town council members (too) came prepared.

Prepared to say “Nay” that is, when the votes were taken and not much else, for that appears to be the extent of what they had planned to do and say, despite knowing in advance that a "storm" was coming.

But could it be they just didn’t know what else to do?

Did they as a body even sat down and discuss options that would help them strategically, mindful they are in the minority and therefore did not have the votes?

In any event, becoming a “leader” by virtue of a title does not make one so, for the honorific, are best earned for it to have substance and meaning, and that in my view is at the heart of the problem.

But I am getting ahead of myself here.

Absent a quorum (10 members) the meeting could not have taken place (there were only 8 Republicans) so all the Democratic members had to do was not show up. Boycott it, simple as that.

For sure the same vigor and perhaps more would be exerted by the Republicans, to push their agenda (whatever that is) in the September meeting, but life as we know it is predictably unpredictable.

For who knows what the dynamics would be like, in that subsequent meeting.

Personally, I do not subscribe to the idea of selling the towns real estate as I believe in leaving all the towns resources for East Haven’s children, for they, more than us, would need that resource, to help build a better future for themselves.

So let me leave you with this thought from a borrowed phrase: “Commit yourself to a mighty purpose” for reputation is everything and integrity is forever.

Lastly, if we would not entrust our car to just anyone; why would we entrust the future of our children and our town, to someone just because he is a Democrat or a Republican?

If what took place at the last town council meeting teaches us anything, it is that the accepted mode in determining one's capacity and capability(!) for public office is seriously deficient.

That what was displayed is a lack of understanding even belief in the service of the common good or our collective interest.

If anything it appears it is all personal with some of them.

Remember that and think about it.

And because I am a political candidate, you should certainly take my words with a “grain of salt” but at the end of the day, you still have to make a fundamental choice.

Change our government’s direction and outlook or maintain it.

And in this upcoming election, all of us have that opportunity for we have a very clear, unambiguous choice.

Thank you for reading this.
