East Haven Installs a New Stone Wall to Make Beaches More Welcoming

Installation of a new stone wall at an East Haven beach is underway.

Last week East Haven have begun installing a new stone wall on the perimeter of it’s public beach areas at the Town Beach on Cosey Beach Avenue, according to an article from the New Haven Register. Officials are reportedly doing this with the hopes of creating a more inviting and welcoming space for residents and visitors.

The wall is expected to be about 470 feet long and 42 inches high upon completion and is being installed by the Public Works Department for a total cost of $10,000, according to the article. The project is funded by the town’s public improvement budget.

It will replace what was once a 50-year-old chain-link fence that ran along the beach’s perimeter, and is being designed to match the decor of the neighborhood with local input from residents of the area, the article reported.

In addition to providing a more pleasant appearance to the area, the wall can also act as a safety barrier against a wave surge, according to the article. It will also help retain sand and pebbles that have disturbed residents and their appliances, such as air-conditioners, in the past.
