East Haven Man Working To Clean Up Blighted Property
The local resident had received a notice of a blight violation.

EAST HAVEN, CT — A local resident is appealing a blight violation he received and members of the Planning and Zoning Commission commended him for taking action.
Gene Madelung of 57 George Street is appealing his notice of blight violation. At a July meeting, Madelung said he has lived there for 17 years and it has never looked like this but in recent years his son passed and then he had a stroke.
At the July meeting, he said he is looking for more time since he has been working on this with his grandson and making some progress but he cannot afford to hire someone to help him. The biggest issue on the site was the vegetation, officials said.

At a meeting held earlier this month, Christopher Soto, Zoning Official, stated that he has re-inspected the site and "they have made progress but there is a little more to be done. They have not met the standards."
Chairman DeMayo commended Medelung for his efforts to remediate the situation.
