Updated With Video: East Haven Police Officer Attacked By Pit Bull, Shoots the Dog
The dog is still alive, police said.

An East Haven Police Officer was attacked by a pit bull mix dog early this morning, and in self-defense, Officer Borer shot the dog, but the dog is still alive, and the entire incident was caught on the officer’s body camera, police said in a release.
The Police Department’s Internal Affairs officer is investigating but police said in a release that the video clearly shows an unprovoked attack by the dog on Borer.
Police said at approximately 2:48 a.m. this morning Borer was on patrol in the Momauguin section, near Oceanview Towing on Coe Avenue when he observed a roaming dog near the roadway.

Borer exited his vehicle to investigate and was attacked by the dog, a pit-bull mix. In self-defense, Borer was forced to discharge his firearm, police said.
The dog was shot and ran away from the scene. The dog is alive. The entire event was captured on Officer Borer’s body camera.

The owner of the dog was notified as well as East Haven Animal Control.
Per Department policy, Internal Affairs Officer Naccarato is investigating the incident. Also, per policy, the Department of Justice and the Joint Compliance Expert were notified.
Officer Borer was not injured in the incident.
