There is something tangible that shifts in the air in New York City as Fashion Week takes over. There seems to be an extra bounce in every fashion lover’s high heeled step as they wait in anticipation for their favorite designers to show at Lincoln Center. For the past four years, the week of festivities has kicked off with Fashion’s Night Out, an event originally created to help boost retail sales when the economy took a downturn. This year, it was held on Thursday, September 6th, which I celebrated with a few friends by attending an exclusive event at Aritzia in Soho and drinking way too many vodka and lemonades while attempting to shop! I somehow went home that night without making any purchases, as I left the store lusting for a beautiful winter white crepe blazer even while I convinced myself that I could find it for a less expensive price elsewhere.
Then, last night, I moved onto even bigger things, as I had the extreme pleasure of attending the Chado Ralph Rucci fashion show! If you follow Project Motherhood regularly, then you may have seen that Ralph Rucci’s sister and Director of PR, Rosina Rucci, graciously extended an exclusive invitation to me after reading my post Fashion 101: Ralph Rucci, and I gladly accepted!
Even though our credit cards and wallets are currently indulging in our personal looks for Fall 2012, the fashion designers have progressed ahead of us by a few seasons. Therefore, as I debated whether or not to wear a quarter-length, two tone blazer over my silk blouse to channel “Fall Fashion 2012″, the Chado models were getting ready to heat things up for our first glimpse of the Spring 2013 Collection.
Once I found my seat in the Theatre, waiting for the show to start, I skimmed the crowd to get a close up of the “creme de la creme” of the fashion industry seated in the front row, along with the anticipated celebrities. (I had a great view of Martha Stewart and Paula Abdul from my angle!) As soon as the show started, with music pulsing and vibrating through the floor, I could feel the passion that I always have had inside me for fashion, and I felt it radiating through the entire room.
To me, this collection screamed energy. It was clearly well thought out and one of the best examples of a complete collection that I have seen in a long time. (In fact, I couldn’t help but think to myself that if they had shown a video of this fashion show during my Clothing Illustration courses in college, many students would have finally understood what an assortment of individual pieces of clothing looks like when grouped together into a cohesive Collection.) In his lovely, vibrant Spring 2013 collection, Mr. Rucci transitions the popular monochromatic winter whites of fall 2012 into monochromatic neons that dazzle. In fact, neons played a HUGE role in this collection. From suiting pieces to coats and embellishments, the collection puts emphasis on shocking pink, coral, and citrus colored hues.
The smashing gowns that adorned models as they swept down the runway are surely going to be seen walking the red carpet during award season. And, the high quality of construction that brought together sheer black fabric with opaque black, tulle, satin, and lace was noticable even if you weren’t sitting all the way up front. Rucci even threw in bold prints on a few caftans that were strikingly gorgeous and could be perfectly paired with a bikini by the pool or sky high sandals for a night out on the town.
Overall, it was an experience and a collection that I will never forget. At the end of the night, I quickly left Lincoln Center and immediately slipped out of my black pumps and into my more mobile Tory Burch Reva Flats so I could hurry my fabulous self straight home to convert my head-spinning recollections into lucid sentences (hopefully!) on my laptop. After all, I needed to pass all of this important fashion information on to my readers without delay…So here it is! Straight off the runway into your breathless fashion hearts!Read more here:empire line dress
