Future of Oakledge Development Still In Limbo

The fate of the long-awaited development at 176 Old Foxon Road is still in limbo after a Planning & Zoning Commission meeting.

On the agenda for the August 3 meeting was further discussion on the Oakledge property, which has been in the planning stage for ten years.

According to an , “The original project plan, approved in 2001, called for 490 residential units and a high-tech business park.” Since then, the project has been stalled due to multiple issues, including lack of funding.

The P&Z Commission voted unanimously to postpone further discussions of the development until a public meeting on October 5. This will allow time for the Inland, Wetlands & 
Watercourses Commission to approve another plan which is instrumental to the progressing of the Oakledge development. If the Commission does not approve the plan, the October 5 hearing will have to be changed.

The deferment also gives the P&Z Commission time to review the new plans given to them by Oakledge Properties LLC. At the last meeting, the committee didn’t feel that Oakledge’s proposal was “workable,” and the resubmitted plan is still being reviewed.

The committee also discussed an extension for the rock-crushing operation that has been running in place of the planned development, much to the.

The three-month extension granted the operation in May ended this week. Because the company did not submit the request in time for review, the extension will be postponed until September 3.
