Ladybug Land

The Early Childhood Center students at St. Vincent de Paul School released their ladybugs into the Parish Center garden this week.

PreK, Kindergarten, and First Grade students have been learning about ladybugs.  This hands-on inquiry based Science unit included a live ladybug metamorphosis.
The ladybug larvae arrived the last week of April.  Students observed the life cycle as the larvae molted and became pupae then hatched into ladybugs.  During this time the students cared for the ladybug land by making sure fresh water was dropped onto the watering pad every other day. Once hatched, the ladybugs were also fed raisins.  Approximately three weeks later, the ladybugs were released into the Parish Center garden where they would be beneficial in protecting the plants from harmful insects of the Parish garden and the School garden.
