Osvaldo "Ed" Martinez obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven CT

Osvaldo “Ed” Martinez, 64, of East Haven, passed away on
July 4, 2025, at the St. Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born
on May 17, 1961, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to the late Pablo and Enriqueta
Martinez.

Ed is survived by his loving wife and partner of 22 years, Susan Friello. He
leaves behind his two children, Rosanna Martinez of Springfield, MA, and Edwin
Martinez of Hartford; two stepdaughters, Debra Friello-Lendroth (Jeffrey) of
East Haven, and Donna Friello of Davenport, FL; eight grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Alma Martinez,
Luzaida Torres, and Moises Torres Sr. (Rosie), along with many nieces, nephews,
and dear friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Maribel Martinez.

Ed will be remembered for his humor, his warmth, and his playful spirit. He
was a ball-buster in the best sense—always ready with a joke, a sly grin, or a
a well-timed tease that got people laughing. Even through years of serious
health challenges, Ed never lost his ability to bring joy or raise the spirits
of those around him. And, through it all, he never stopped fighting.

Ed loved with his whole heart—his wife, his family, and his dogs
were the center of his world. He never hesitated to help someone in need. He
welcomed everyone with open arms and treated people with kindness, regardless
of their circumstances or background. He had a gift for making people laugh and
feel at ease, always making sure those around him knew he was glad they were
there.

A proud 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Ed was an active member of St. Pio of
Pietrelcina Parish. He gave generously of his time through volunteer work at
St. Vincent de Paul and Our Lady of Pompeii churches. His faith was strong, and
his commitment to serving others left a lasting impact.

Ed enjoyed traveling with Sue, especially to Florida, the beach, the casino,
and the Big E. He found joy in simple pleasures and made friends wherever he
went.
