Republican Town Committee Elects Women For Top Roles

EAST HAVEN, CT — The Republican Town Committee described its election of officers as an "historic event" for two reasons.

First, it was the committee’s "first-ever foray into the modern day of technology by holding (its) election of officers via teleconference due to the social distancing and stay at home recommendations due to Covid-19." And secondly, the committee voted in two women into the top leadership positions. Stacy Gravino was elected chair and Beth Purcell was elected vice-chair.

"This will be the first time in the history of the East Haven Republican Town Committee that women will occupy the top leadership roles," according to a press release from the committee.

Gravino is currently serving her fifth term as East Haven Town Clerk. She previously served for four years as the East Haven Republican Town Committee Secretary.

Gravino said she's "excited to be a part of history and to help escort the Committee into the next phase of progress" and is "excited about working with the Party to help bring a fresh face to it."

Purcell is serving a fifth term as an East Haven Board of Finance member. She's a finance director at Yale University. The press release said she's "looking forward to working with all of the Republican Town Committee members, old and new, and helping lead the Party through the next 2 years."

"We have a great team, and together we can do great things," she is quoted as saying.

Also elected were Eduardo Torrealba as treasurer and Maurice Adams as secretary.
