WTNH News 8's Newest Anchor Named

The new anchor will partner nightly with Ann Nyberg, who has been on the air for almost 30 years in Connecticut.

It’s only fitting that WTNH News 8’s Ann Nyberg be the one to introduce her co-anchor for the 6 p.m. nightly news broadcast.

In a Facebook message this week, Nyberg, who has worked at News 8 since 1987 and is the station’s most well-known figure, wrote, “Drumroll....introducing you to your new news team on News 8 at 6:00 p.m. starting on January 14th. My new partner, Scott McDonnell who is from Massachusetts, but who is coming to us by way of Kansas City. Scott McDonnell.”

McDonnell is no stranger to Connecticut news television, formerly serving as a WFSB 3 TV reporter.

News 8’s General Manager told the New Haven Register that, “Scott’s commitment to reporting important local and national news aligns with our mission of having the backs of our viewers and telling the stories that impact their lives.”

After leaving Connecticut, McDonnell worked in Massachusetts, Florida, and has most recently been working in Kansas City serving as the weekend morning anchor.

According to his official bio from his Kansas City television station, “Scott McDonnell joined KMBC-TV and KCWE-TV in March, 2013.

He has worked as a reporter and anchor in several states across the U.S., including Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, and his home state of Massachusetts. Scott has covered several national stories, including the shooting death of Trayvon Martin and the 2012 Presidential election from the crucial swing state of Florida.”

News 8’s Darren Kramer, who has been subbing at 6 p.m will continue to anchor the news at 5 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., the Register reports.
