ELLINGTON, CT — The Nellie McKnight Museum is inviting residents to watch Saturday's America 250 parade from its grounds and stop inside for a look at Ellington's history.

The museum at 70 Main St. will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 3, according to the Ellington Historical Society's event announcement. The parade begins at 2 p.m., traveling from Berr Avenue along Main Street to the Department of Public Works.

"All are welcome to enjoy the parade at the Nellie McKnight Museum," the society wrote in a Facebook announcement Thursday.

Inside, visitors can see "Our Town, Our Story: An Ellington Timeline," an exhibit tracing the town's history from its founding in 1786 to the present. The display connects local people, places and events with milestones in American history, according to the society.

The museum's hours overlap with the town's America 250 celebration, which runs from 1 to 6 p.m. on the Town Green at Main and Maple streets.

Patriotic music and gathering on the Green begin at 1 p.m. The town's schedule lists delivery of the Declaration of Independence at the gazebo at 3 p.m. and guest speakers at 4:30 p.m.

Food trucks, vendors, games and historical displays are also planned. Children can take part in a scavenger hunt and earn a wooden coin, according to the town's celebration notice.

General parking will be available at Town Hall, Arbor Park, Center School and Ellington High School. Accessible parking will be at the Senior Center, with a shuttle to the event. Parking at nearby businesses is reserved for their customers, the town said.

The Ellington Historical Society owns and operates the museum, with funding from membership dues, gifts and fundraising, according to its website.
