Fundraiser Aims To Save 42-Year-Old Ellington Daycare (patch.com) — Families in Ellington are rallying to help Scotty's Kiddy Korner Preschool & Day Care stay open after 42 years, with a fundraiser aiming to raise $25,000 and already drawing dozens of donations. Organizers say the money will cover teacher pay and essential costs while the center boosts enrollment and seeks grants and partnerships. The long-standing daycare, which serves children from 6 weeks to 12 years and offers transportation in Ellington, Vernon and South Windsor, currently has openings across several age groups.
2. Hazmat teams respond to ammonia leak at manufacturing plant in Ellington (wtnh.com) — An ammonia leak at the Peterson Farm/Country Pure Foods facility on West Road in Ellington was contained Tuesday afternoon, and officials say there's no danger to the public. You might still notice an ammonia smell south of the plant as it dissipates, but hazmat teams from UConn and nearby departments have secured the scene.
3. Connecticut inspector suspended after interactions tied to funeral home owner accused of $1M theft (nhregister.com) — An Ellington resident and state health inspector, Robert Binkowski, served a reduced 30-day unpaid suspension over what officials called misconduct tied to a funeral home owned by a man accused of stealing prepaid funeral funds. Binkowski, who once worked for the Pietras funeral homes, insists he did nothing wrong and says he never inspected those businesses alone.
4. Crews battle condo fire in East Windsor, no injuries reported (wfsb.com) — Ellington firefighters were among several departments called to help knock down a condo fire in East Windsor's Broad Brook section Wednesday afternoon, where three attached units filled with smoke but no one was hurt. Crews quickly contained the blaze, vented neighboring condos for high carbon monoxide, and investigators are now seeking information about how the fire started.
