Basketball, Hockey Update for Ellington, Somers High Schools
A look at the postseason possibilities for Knights and Spartans basketball and ice hockey teams.

As regular season play on the ice and hardcourt enters its final weeks, the postseason picture for basketball and ice hockey teams from Ellington and Somers high schools is becoming clearer.
Boys basketball
Somers has already qualified for the Class S tournament, posting an 8-6 record thus far. However, the Spartans have dropped four straight, and need to get back on track to prepare for the postseason. Next: home vs. Canton, Friday, 7 p.m.

Ellington is on the verge of qualifying in Class M, needing to add two more wins to its current 6-5 mark. Like Somers, the Knights have struggled of late, losing its last two outings. Next: home vs. SMSA, Friday, 7 p.m.

Ellington is 5-9, and needs to win three of its final six games to make the Class M tournament. The Knights have rebounded from some early-season difficulties, winning three of the past four games. Next: at Glastonbury, Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Somers is 4-11, and must win four of its final five contests to qualify in Class S. Since upsetting Ellington in a 53-52 thriller on Jan. 19, the Spartans have lost four straight. Next: at CREC Public Safety Academy, Thursday, 6 p.m.
Ice hockey
Tri-Town hopes to continue the offensive momentum built in its last outing, a 10-4 thrashing of Taconic last Saturday. The 3-6 team currently holds the final spot in the Division III tournament rankings with half of the regular season schedule ahead. Next: home vs. Fermi co-op, Wednesday, 3:50 p.m.
