Cub Scout Pack 77's First Meeting of the Year Is Very Egg-Citing!
The Ellington Cub Scouts Pack 77 held an event in which the boys designed an egg capsule which could withstand a fall from approximately 100 feet. The results were very interesting.
Last Friday, the Ellington Cub Scouts Pack 77 held a great event at their first pack meeting of this new school year. The pack is seeing growth in their membership, and you can feel a lot of energy in the group, especially among the boys.
After a few formalities, the boys were divided into teams of two. They were allowed to pick only 6 items from a table filled with all sorts of packing material and cushioning items. Their job was to use their six items to devise a capsule that could surround an egg and protect it during a 100 foot fall from the top of the Ellington Fire Department’s impressive ladder truck. A rope and bucket were used to lift the capsules to the top of the ladder, and Fireman Blaize Levitan did the honors of dropping the egg capsules onto the drop zone below.
Over 30 teams participated in the event, and their ingenuity showed, when
more than half of the eggs survived the fall. It was a sight to see.
Enjoy the pictures.
