Ellington Winter Farmers' Market Concludes Friday, March 29th

The first winter season of the Ellington Farmers’ Market is winding down as farmers scour seed catalogs and tend their seedlings for summer crops. 

The market, held every other Friday, was an excellent example of two organizations working together to provide a community supported event. Though small in size due to limited space, many locally produced foods including dairy, beef, seafood, pork, poultry, a wide variety of baked goods, cheeses, greens and specialty sauces could be purchased.   

One customer remarked “I buy most of my basic foods at the market. I love knowing where my meat products are coming from. I can certainly taste the difference.” 

The two leaders of the organizations are extremely pleased with the partnership. John Reilly, District Executive Director of Indian Valley Family YMCA, voiced praise for the market.

“The YMCA has been privileged to host the Ellington Farmers’ Market this winter. The experience has once again demonstrated what an incredible community we have. It was extremely well organized and well attended. The Farmers and vendors were a pleasure to work with, and the quality of their products was beyond compare. Those who came to shop were some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. We look forward to seeing everyone at Arbor Park in the spring.”

The YMCA and it's employees were an incredible host for the market. I can’t say enough about how fantastic the staff of the YMCA has been to the vendors and customers of the market. They have done everything in their power to promote the market and make it a great experience for everyone. Their efforts are greatly appreciated!

The final winter market takes place Friday March 29th from 4-6:30 at the YMCA, 11 Pinney St., Ellington. The summer market begins May 4^th from 9-12 in Arbor Park, Main St. Ellington.
