Seniors "Scooped" for Other Seniors

Somers Senior Center celebrates Mother's Day with a "make your own sundae" party.

It was the men serving all women (and men) on Thursday, May10th, at the as everyone celebrated Mother’s Day.  Thanks to the Town of Somers Senior Center staff, a “make your own ice cream sundae” celebration was attended and enjoyed by more than 45 seniors.   Everyone reminisced days gone by as several male seniors filled the roles of “Soda Jerks” (as they used to be called) and they served the ice cream and toppings.  They were adorned in the customary white hat, white shirt, white apron and black bow tie.  Phyllis Gwilliam with her craftiness made the aprons and bow ties and the hats were donated by Shady Glen Restaurant at the Manchester Parkade.  A number of seniors commented that there were so many different kinds of toppings available for their sundaes it was hard to choose – so they took some of each!  There were even sliced bananas if you wanted to make a banana split.  Everyone became very “young at heart” and diets went out the window for a glorious afternoon!

Of course, our male seniors will be honored by our senior women at the forthcoming Town of Somers Senior Center’s Father’s Day celebration on Thursday, June 14th.  Details and how to make a reservation will be in the June issue of the Somers Senior Newsletter or you can call the Somers Senior Center at (860) 763-4379.  Somers Seniors, keep your eyes and ears open for this forthcoming fun afternoon!
