Faces of Freedom preserves and archives the personal histories and images of U.S. military veterans and Holocaust survivors. Only 10% of military personnel see combat, but every veteran has a story. This Memorial Day, the Somers Department of Veterans Affairs and the Legacy of Service: Somers Veterans Foundation, Inc. invite the community to gather for a morning of remembrance, reflection, and connection at the Veterans Coffeehouse Memorial Day Event.
In a time when our nation continues to honor generations of service, this event offers a quiet yet powerful space to share stories that shaped lives and communities. Guests are invited to reflect on the question, “Who are you remembering today?” and to contribute their memories to the Remembrance Board, a dignified display where every card tells a story of courage, sacrifice, and love. There will also be other events, to include a selfie photo booth with prompts and an information table introducing the non profit, Legacy of Service, to the community.
The Veterans Coffeehouse is more than a gathering-it’s a living tribute. Through shared reflection, we honor those who served and those who carried their legacy forward. Each conversation, each memory, becomes part of a collective remembrance that bridges generations.

The <a href="https://ccrkba.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms</a> is calling on New England Second Amendment advocates and activists to mark their calendars for May 30, and save the date! The <a href="https://CCRKBA.org/fac" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Firearms Advocacy Conference</a> will bring together some of the top minds and staunchest advocates from the New England states to discuss legislation, litigation, lobbying, and more! Second Amendment giants, legislators, attorneys, and content creators have committed to participating in the event. The New England Firearms Advocacy Conference will be a one-day event with the benefit of no overnight lodging needs for most attendees. Participants will be provided coffee, pastries, and lunch as well as a program packed with quality presentations and speakers. Attendance to the New England Firearms Advocacy Conference includes a one-year membership to CCRKBA and requires pre-registration. Join the Ellington Trails Committee and the Vernon Greenways Volunteers for a walk and hike along the Hockanum River as part of CT Trails Day. We will meet at the parking lot at Pinney Fields. The hike features bountiful wildlife including multiple bird species and fowl, inland marshland, and a calm and babbling river. You will be able to cross the suspension bridge and see the work of beaver and other wildlife. You will have the option of a 2 mile round trip hike or a 5 mile round trip hike.
